I have never had the best time management ability and because of my overthinking, I would always spend a large amount of time on a single task that should have been done in a short while and because my lack of prioritisation I always experience an intense amount of stress.
One of the ways in which I learned to prioritise was during the personal development module wherein I had to create a time management matrix and I had to list down all my tasks/projects and rank them in categories of “urgent”, not urgent, important, not important. The time management matrix is a method of learning how to prioritise your tasks so that you are not overwhelmed by all the work that you have to do. The categories rank the tasks from most important to least important and give you an idea of what is most important and what can be done later on.

After doing this exercise, it was made extremely clear how terrible my prioritising had become. I had put the most important tasks behind the tasks that could be done at a later time with half the amount of effort. While creating my own matrix it dawned on me why, up until that point, I was retaining so much stress and why I had felt as if I was running out of time. Before I made my matrix, I would have this constant feeling of panic and intense anxiety because of the amount of work that I had to do and the fear that I did not have enough time because of how busy my personal life is. However, after doing this matrix, I did realise that there is enough time in the day to do the task and still have time to function efficiently in my personal life. In addition to this realisation, there is a method of completing tasks called the Pomodoro technique and as explained by Yana Savitsky,
it is the practice of gradually completing a task by doing it in little intervals. This method is what I can use to manage my time better and by practicing this, I can allocate my time effectively to all my tasks and not feel overwhelmed.
Time management is one of the most important practices in life. I have learned that not mastering time management makes me highly inefficient and very stressed. Good time management can lead to a lot of good learning, both about myself and how much I can get done in a day and about the control of life that comes with the control of time.
